Now that the holiday shopping frenzy has begun, two Florida doctors suggest giving the gift of good health by giving cookies.
You heard that right. Cookies.
These cookies aren’t the kind left out for Santa---the ones loaded with sugar, butter and flour. These cookies contain all good stuff -- loads of omega-3, calcium, fiber, vitamin D and are gluten-free with less sugar than an apple.
The Omega Cookie, created by Dr. Bo Martinsen and Dr. Anne-Marie Chalmers of Ambo Foods, LLC in Venice, Fla. has grabbed national attention by winning fans and awards for its innovation. Each Omega Cookie contains 2000 mg EPA/DHA--- the equivalent of eating a salmon dinner or taking seven capsules of omega-3 fish oil. The cookie holds 41 patent claims.
Omega-3, found abundantly in fatty fish like salmon and tuna is linked to preventing heart disease, lowering triglyceride levels and relieving joint pain.
Today, several cookie products on the market tout omega-3 content. However, Omega Cookie contains 20 to 80 times more omega-3 EPA/DHA than the leading omega-3 cookie or cereal contenders.
